Cermaic Wall

Surprising, versatile and ultra-modern, the Ceramic Wall from Naxos redefines the use of ceramics in the home. Ceramic walls can assign purpose to space; they can add interest; they can divide and establish boundaries. Sculptural and smooth, the Naxos X-wall is an ideal addition to a modern, open-plan interior. Living in a loft, yet wanting a way to discern the bathing area from the sleeping quarters? A ceramic wall is the perfect solution, adding an element of privacy without interrupting the space with a solid wall. The touchable, gleaming surfaces of the ceramic pieces imply a work of art that actually functions to enhance the convenience and order of your daily routine. Gotta love magnets.

A metal sheet, mounted horizontally or vertically on the wall provides an endless variety of possibilities: boxes with a magnetical back stick on it in any position. Depending on number, size and arrangement of the boxes, there is a new shelf everytime you change it. Magnetique is any cupboard you want it to be. — from Nils Holger Moorman

2 new mailboxes from DWR.

The cylindrical Cadrona Mailbox is divided into two compartments: The top half is an easy-access dock for newspapers while the bottom compartment keeps letters and small packages hidden and protected. The lower compartment is accessed by lifting the top. The red powder coating applied over its galvanized steel body helps ensure complete rust protection from the elements, but we also like how it serves as a marker for a residence. This mailbox holds A4-size mail and small parcels. — from DWR

Designer
Frank Samuels
Designer Frank Samuels created his Premier Mailbox (2006) in response to customer requests for modern, yet functional, mailboxes. Drawing on his experience in the New Zealand architecture and landscaping scene, Samuels created a mailbox that’s simple and understated, but also smartly made. Ready to stand up to anything Mother Nature (and the postman) can deliver, the durable and weatherproof design is crafted of stainless steel and cedar plywood that’s protected with three coats UV-protective sealer. The front slot accepts up to A4-size mail. Small parcels can be delivered by lifting the back panel, which is also how mail is retrieved. Secured with a non-locking quick latch. Support post not included.– from DWR

For all the font nerds.

Anyone who has spent lots of time trying to get a research paper to fit within the parameters required by this or that instructor has fudged margins and fonts to achieve a barely passing grade. So you go to the fonts menu and try the various styles available. That’s how I first came to know of Helvetica, during one of those all-nighters trying to finish a paper. It’s appropriate that this homage to the classic font takes the shape of a coffee mug. I spent many over-caffeinated nights with bleary eyes looking at the sans serif characters. — from Veer

When you break it, I wonder if the real person dies in real life? I bet not.

A real talking point around the dinner table. Each plate has an anonymous figure in silhouette. Underneath, there are details of when and where that figure was photographed. The eater is encouraged to stop for a moment, and contemplate the hidden world emerging on his or her plate. — from freshwest design.
